Wetland Restoration Site Selection
Pierce County, Washington
Wetlands are an important source for ecosystem health. They provide support for numerous wildlife species, both plants and animals. They also help with flood mitigation, filter sediments and pollutants for clean water, and provide outdoor recrations areas.
With development of dams and dikes, over 80% of wetlands in the Pacific Northwest have disappeared. Now that we understand their importance, wetland restoration is growing. With urban development growth, it is essential to find a site that can be successful in providing the maximum benefit of a wetland. After exploring the literature, the following analysis and maps were created in search of the best possible sites for wetlands.
